How the calculation works
We reverse the standard payment formula: given a monthly payment, rate, and term, we solve for the loan principal that payment can repay. Adding your down payment gives the approximate vehicle budget. A longer term or lower rate lets the same payment support a higher amount, though a longer term usually means more total interest.
